When moisture gets into a building, it’s not long before microbial contamination sets in. This can lead to a host of health problems for the building’s occupants as well as structural damage to the building. Before you consider mold remediation, you need to know what you’re dealing with and then get a plan for fixing the problem.

When thinking about whether or not mold remediation is necessary for your New Jersey home or commercial property, ask yourself these questions:

1) Is my building susceptible to flooding?

2) Do I smell unknown, musty, or putrid odors after rainstorms?

3) Have I been having trouble breathing, had unexplainable eye redness, or skin rashes?

4) Do I lack proper ventilation for humidity and moisture?

5) Have I seen speckles of multicolored fuzz on objects such as pipes or tiles?

If you said yes to any of these questions, a mold microbial evaluation might help you solve potential mold problems in your building. Mold remediation in New Jersey homes and office buildings might be needed if your area is easily affected by New Jersey’s moisture and humidity levels.

April showers might have brought more than may flowers…especially if there’s flora in your home or office from the leaks and humidity. With the warmer weather, mold can easily become a major problem, so don’t leave it untreated!

If expenses keep you from contacting a professional mold inspection expert, think again, as we consider the issue from another angle: what does opting out of mold inspection cost you?

1. Your health—perpetual exposure to moldy environments can cause cold-like symptoms and other allergic responses that may worsen over time.

2. Your possessions—if contaminated with mold, your belongings may need to be discarded, since the mold will spread and release toxic spores into the air. These mold spores may grow in previously unaffected areas, or they may begin to cause illness.

3. Your money—over time, you may wind up spending more on medical care and building maintenance for only visible areas of mold. The root cause of the mold may actually be invisible to the eye, so having spot-treatment repairs done may cost you between $300 to $30,000, depending on the size of the affected area.

You can save all the trouble by investing your time and money in a reputable mold inspector who is credible, recommended by customers, and up-to-date in practices and equipment. We conduct thorough investigations, including moisture intrusion investigations, to identify the root cause of the mold.

Relative to the risks, the mold inspection cost is but a small price to pay.

When you spend a lot of time in the same building and find that you are getting more ill each time you leave the place, you may working or living in a sick building. Sick buildings could contain such poor air quality that it is beginning to harbor contaminants which are detrimental to your health, including airborne viruses, cancer-causing carcinogens, and biological contaminants like mold spores or pollen.

A professional can begin testing indoor air quality in your sick building by first inspecting the types of objects commonly used in the sick building and checking the sources of ventilation, like fans, windows, and doors. They will then determine how they will clean and improve the indoor air quality of the sick building, possibly by disinfecting the building, ventilating it without human disturbance for a few days, or by installing better ventilation systems in the building.

Be sure the expert testing indoor air quality for your building has a pragmatic approach and high integrity, so you know you get answers you can count on.

It’s been proven that more oxygen to the brain helps students focus better and consequently perform better on academic assessments.

However, the air quality in schools is often detrimental to students because dust, odors, molds, and bacteria, among various other microscopic particles, often lurk in the school environment. It may be, then, that indoor air quality testing—something seldom at the top of our to-do lists—may be particularly necessary in schools.

Children, senior citizens, and individuals with asthma, allergies, and poor immune systems are at greater risk for illnesses from breathing bad air. The indoor air usually contains three main categories of contaminants: dust, gases and odors, and bacteria and molds.

Air filters can capture floating dust particles; however, air filters can do very little about the other two categories of pollutants! Unfortunately for students, who spend an average of 7 to 8 hours in school every day, they are stuck breathing these harmful particles. It’s no wonder, then, that more and more children are developing allergies and asthma at younger ages.

Tomorrow is National Teachers Day, so as we celebrate our teachers, let us remember that we are the support system on which the teachers stand, and we should advocate for indoor air quality testing to ensure the best environment for both the teachers and the children that are growing under their care.

Unknown odors can affect the indoor air quality of your home or commercial building. It is important to identify and detect where these odors are coming from so you can rid your building of them.

Asking a professional to test the indoor air quality in your home can help with this task.

Three things you should do in conjunction with testing indoor air quality include:

1) Have a professional conduct an investigation of your home to check for possible damages or growths which could cause strange odors to fill your building.

2) Order a moisture intrusion investigation to be done to see if there is a potential mold problem in your building. Mold is a common cause for unknown odors.

3) Test your ventilation fans to make sure they are effective in removing odor-causing contaminants.

Until you’ve gone through the process of testing indoor air in your structure, it’s very difficult to determine what could be causing odors or making the occupants sick. Better to find out the truth so you can take appropriate measures to fix the problem.

Let the experts at J. Tyler Scientific help you get rid of unknown odors in your home or commercial property today. Request a free quote for an indoor air quality test today.

Today is National Honesty Day, so let’s be honest with ourselves: are there problems we’re ignoring?

One common issue is poor indoor air quality, which is something we don’t usually think about…but do you know what microscopic substances are in the air you pull into your lungs? Particles of mold, pollen, dust, smoke, and chemical cleaning products often linger in the air, and breathing in an environment clouded with these substances is not healthy.

Here are five benefits of regular air quality testing:

1. It helps you identify the source of pollutants within your home or office. The first step to finding a solution is recognizing the problem. Once the source of pollutants is known, it becomes easier for you to minimize the negative impact.

2. It reveals the level of indoor pollution. Indoor air quality consultants often install meters to track levels of moisture and gauge the presence of harmful gases such as carbon monoxide. Keeping track of the levels of pollution helps you know when to take action.

3. It helps you find practical ways to maintain good air quality. Indoor air quality professionals can provide you with a list of best practices to follow, including cleaning regularly, increasing ventilation, as well as using air filters and purifiers.

4. It minimizes sickness and allergies. As you regularly identify and remove pollutants from the air, you remove the source of health problems, and consequently, the health problems themselves.

5. It pays off in the long run. Spending a few extra dollars to test and maintain good air quality will ultimately help you spend less on medical care and building maintenance.

Regular air quality testing can greatly improve the quality of the air you breathe, so call 609.668.7867 for a custom quote today.

.

Here are 5 causes of indoor air pollution you may not have thought about before:

1) Fireplaces and Stovetops – Both fireplaces and stovetops emit smoke particles which can be harmful to breathe in on a daily basis. Limit use of these, especially if your office space is small.

2) Paint – If you recently had your office painted, make sure you allow ample time for the paint fumes to exhaust themselves out of the area by opening windows and doors each day.

3) Mold – Mold spores floating around in your indoor office air can be both bothersome and harmful to your breathing. Be sure to have someone conduct a thorough mold inspection and remediation if this is a problem in your office.

Are you tired of dealing with mold in your building? You’ve thought about contacting a mold inspector, you’ve thought about what’s involved in mold remediation, but you just haven’t taken action yet. And your mold’s not going away.

Well, don’t give up just yet! Today is Take a Chance Day—go out and find the right mold inspector to do the job properly, because you don’t want to take a chance with mold.

A qualified mold inspector knows where to look, what to look for, and how to eradicate the problem. He or she has insight to the root cause of the problem and is able to apply environmental safety procedures in order to get the mold out and keep it away. A good mold inspector can also provide remediation oversight to ensure that the repair is done properly.

Without the help of a qualified contractor, you are taking three major risks:

Risking your health: Tampering with the mold growth without the expert knowledge of a trained professional can increase levels of microscopic mold spores and consequently cause a variety of ailments, including respiratory illnesses and allergies.

Risking the safety of your building: Mold grows rapidly, so if the problem is left untreated or is improperly treated, the mold could spread and contaminate other (previously unaffected) areas in the building.

Risking your pocket: Cheaper isn’t always better. If you don’t find a reputable mold inspector, you could easily wind up spending much more on improper diagnoses and shoddy repairs instead of getting rid of the problem once and for all.

These major risks aren’t worth taking. Just click to request a free quote and find a trustworthy mold inspector today.

.

In the past, asbestos was widely used in constructing homes, insulation, piping, and anything else which needs to be more fire resistant.

However, when asbestos minerals are crushed, they release chemicals and fibers which are hazardous to humans and any surrounding area. If you are the owner of an older building or home, it would be to your benefit to have asbestos testing done for the sake of health and safety reasons.

During asbestos testing, the inspector may have to open floor boards, lift carpeting, unscrew fixtures, and remove wallpaper in order to check as many asbestos prone places as possible. They will also take pictures of susceptible areas and draw sketches of possibly infected materials.

With all of this information combined, asbestos inspectors determine what the next step of action is to take. What’s needed could be as minor as just creating an asbestos management plan – or as sweeping as a major remediation. While there’s lots of hype in the news, you can’t get a clear idea of what’s really needed without asbestos testing being done first.

You shouldn’t have to deal with asbestos on your own. Call 609.668.7867 for a custom Asbestos Management quote from the asbestos experts at J. Tyler Scientific.
